Monitoring the Safety Integrity Level of your rail vehicle and ensuring safe operation. The safety and approval related documentation simplifies the approval process.
SafeMon exists to secure the safety of your passengers. It consists of a certified monitoring unit that comes with smart, safety-relevant functions, as well as all the associated safety and approval-related documentation. SafeMon's Safety Integrity Level (SIL) specifies that in the event of faulty or defective components, safety-relevant procedures such as braking, coupling or uncoupling, are guaranteed just as before. As a result, it helps to prevent consequential damage due to unwanted traction or overspeed.
At mtu we develop our safety technology in-house. That means it comes perfectly aligned with the mtu PowerPack. SafeMon is integrated directly in the power system via a simple hardware interface, which means that existing vehicles can also be readily upgraded. Rail vehicle manufacturers receive a complete package that has already been subjected to all hazard and risk assessments, so you can be sure that it comes certified for the safety level that you require.
The special rail automation system has a central interface for the complete system and is certified for rail applications. It includes an ADEC governor, a power automation unit engine, traction and a power output module.
Powerline is mtu’s automation system for train drive units. It represents a step forward towards a bright new future of technology for rail vehicles. The powerline automation system makes the integration of the engine into the locomotive a simple process.
As you would expect from mtu, control, regulation and monitoring are all part of the package that comes with the powerline system. What is more, because of the optimized interface technology, the engine is also quick and easy to install.
Maximum capacity with the CaPoS and the CaPoS smart edition (only available for 8V 4000 engines). The maintenance-free automation system includes a connection cable or an integral charger for the smart edition.
CaPoS is mtu's Capacitor Power System for Series 4000 engines. It's the perfect combination of power and innovation.
CaPoS is an innovative UltraCap voltage supply system which eliminates the need for conventional starter batteries in railroad applications. CaPoS uses capacitor technology to optimize startup behavior.
The number of UltraCap modules required depends on your motor type, power system and breakaway torque. You can use CaPoS either autonomously or in conjunction with mtu's powerline automation system.

The mtu Hybrid PowerPack is the new generation of tried and tested PowerPacks. It is equipped with additional components and functions such as the use of power-dense electrical machines. The Hybrid PowerPack can easily be installed in the space under the floor. The modular design creates great flexibility in planning new vehicles with hybrid train engines or converting existing diesel trains. It satisfies all existing railway standards and can be arranged according to customer specifications.
