mtu 16V 2000 is already the market and technological leader and has a global market share of 90 percent in its class. In the yachts sector, the 16-cylinder is the most successful of the 2000 Series range. mtu created the innovative Series 2000 M96L engine with luxury and sport-fishing yachts in mind. They are available with 10-, 12- and 16-cylinder.
12-cylinder and 16-cylinder versions offer power ranges from 1,700 to 1,920 bhp and 2,185 to 2,600 bhp, respectively. Thanks to their marine-specific design and compact dimensions, mtu engines offer exceptional power-to-weight ratios and continue to rank among the industry’s most cutting-edge yacht propulsion systems.
With the more powerful engine, mtu is aiming not only to further consolidate its outstanding market position but also to offer shipbuilders new design options. Another major innovation in the new mtu 2000 Common Rail series is the new generation of mtu's own "ADEC" (Advanced Diesel Engine Control) electronic engine management system.
12V and 16V 2000 Common Rail engines employ a third generation common rail system in which an accumulator is mounted on top of the injectors. Actual storage function is performed by individual storage facilities in the cylinder heads. Prevents pressure fluctuations in the fuel line, thus stopping surging at the injectors and the supply of too little or too much fuel.The pressure (max. 1800 bar) remains virtually constant in the entire system.
On top of that, the unit meets all emissions standards applying to marine engines worldwide and comes automatically equipped with a SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) certificate.
